I want the Doctor to take a kid as his companion.
A 14-15 year old kid who’s parents are fighting, has few friends, bad grades, and feels like complete shit before the Doctor comes.
No kissing, complicated relationships, confusion or stuff like that, just the Doctor taking a kid who doesn’t see much out of life for a ride.
True… just a kid who whose eyes would widen at the sight of an alien planet and scream with delight and run around on alien grass and fall backwards and roll around and the Doctor would simply smile and enjoy being a time traveller and seeing new stuff for a little while. *laugh*
I think he’s worried though. The Doctor I mean. After all, death and destruction follows him like a pet pooch, I don’t think kids are a good idea to bring along. See what nearly happened to those two he brought along recently…. people don’t come back unscathed on these trips. I don’t think the Doctor would ever forgive himself if he lost a kid. Especially a kid.
Most of all, it’s because he would have to be responsible for him/her. He would have to tell the kid’s parents if something happens and he can’t comfort his guilty conscience with the fact that they were fully aware of the dangers and consciously chose to go with him anyway because they’re kids… not adults. And you know he doesn’t really do the whole responsible/duty thing… (not now anyway, tho the recent episode has him making small baby steps).
Perhaps if he saved a kid who has nowhere else to go though… like an orphan off the streets who helped him on one of the adventures and would die from homeless and cold if he simply left. Someone who he can’t leave behind like he usually does. Then he’ll be forced to bring that kid along.
